Dr Susan Hsieh

Dr Susan graduated with a Bachelor of Dentistry from the University of Sydney in 2002. She worked as a general dentist in a busy private practice in Canberra, before commencing speciality training in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Sydney in 2007. She completed her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) in 2009 and commenced part-time specialist practice in 2010.

Between 2009 and 2012, Dr Susan was appointed as a Senior Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at Westmead Centre for Oral Health, a Visiting Dental Officer at Hornsby Kuring-gai Hospital, and a clinical associate lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney. She was also involved in research in tongue-ties and frenectomies (tongue-tie release) in infancy and was a guest speaker at the NSW Childhood Cancer Survivorship Info Day. Dr Susan was awarded first prize in the Australian New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Postgraduate Research Competition in 2010, and was a finalist in the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Graduate Student Research Award in 2011. Her research work was published in the journal Cancer in 2011.

Dr Susan and Dr Thuy collaborated in 2011 to establish St George Paediatric Dental Specialists.  Dr Susan prioritises integretive approaches to dental health, especially in prevention and management of dental caries in young children, optimising jaw growth and oral myofunction, and more recently, the use of LASER in paediatric dentistry. She has attended multiple continuing education courses and seminars, including:

  • Progressive Orthodontics Seminars
  • Myobrace Therapy and Arch Expansion with Dr John Flutter
  • Early Treatment of Malocclusions with Dr German Ramirez-Yanez and Myofocus
  • LASER applications with Professor Giovanni Olivi and Dr Hisham Abdallah
  • Tongue tie diagnosis and management with the Tongue Tie Institutue, Breathe Institute with Dr Soroush Zaghi and ASTLiT
  • "Food is Medicine" Mindd International Forum

Dr Susan is proficient in Mandarin.  On her days off, she is kept busy feeding vegetables to her kids.
