Find out moreThe leading gastroenterologists at Alexandria Specialist Day Hospital specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions that affect the digestive system or gastrointestinal tract.
These conditions include coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome and cancer.
Our gastroenterologists perform endoscopic procedures to view the oesophagus, stomach and bowel without performing major surgery. Instead a long-specialised tube with a tiny light and camera at the tip is used to visualise your gastrointestinal tract.
At Alexandria Specialist Day Hospital, we have a dedicated Endoscopy Procedure Room.
The main procedures carried out by the gastroenterologists at Alexandria Specialist Day Hospital include:
A gastroscopy is a non-surgical procedure where a gastroscope, a long flexible tube with a light and tiny camera attached to it, is passed through the mouth and throat into the oesophagus and down into your stomach and duodenum, allowing your specialist to view your digestive tract.
A gastroscopy is used to diagnose, ulcers, gastritis, digestive tract bleeding.
A Colonoscope is a tiny camera on a long flexible tube that is used to examine the entire length of the large bowel. The Colonoscope is inserted into your anus and extended up into your colon.
The majority of colonoscopies are performed as part of screening programs for colon cancer. Other reasons include investigation of blood in the stool and abdominal pain.
